About Mrs. M.I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to you. I am so excited that you are here and I am looking forward to a great semester of being your teacher. My name is Mrs. Magaña (that’s pronounced MUH-GONE-YUH J). This semester I am teaching one block of World Literature and two blocks of British Literature. It is my third year here at Sprayberry, although it feels like I’ve been here for much longer, because I did my student teaching here, and I love this school! I graduated from Kennesaw State University in December of 2012 with a Bachelor’s in English Education. This semester I am going back to school and joining you all as a student. I will start the process of getting my Masters this fall at KSU.
My choice to become a teacher didn’t really seem like a choice to me! I am the oldest of four children and I feel as if I have been trying to force people to learn things since I can remember. I loved school and I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. As far as Literature goes, it has always been my favorite subject. I learned how to read very young, and because it was something that I was good at, I practiced and practiced. I understand however, that reading isn’t everyone’s “thing”. There are many of you who found out that you were good at other things like athletics, art, or music at a young age and those areas have become your passion. I will try to keep that in mind as I teach our class. I love literature because I see it as a chance to connect to the minds of people from all over the world and from all times that I otherwise would have had no chance to meet. Like I said before, I am the oldest of four children. My family is SO important to me, and you will probably hear a lot about them this semester. I married my high school sweetheart in September of 2012. We have two fur babies that I love: a black cat named Eddie, a St. Bernard (like Beethoven! J) named Annie, and a new English Mastiff puppy named Titus. We welcomed our first baby human into the world this past August (he will be ONE on the 8th). His name is Abram, he’s the CUTEST (as you can see from the above picture), and I’m sure you will meet him at some point this semester. Being a parent is something that you can’t understand until it happens, but it’s life changing! I love to travel! You will hear more stories about this I’m sure, but my favorite place that I have been is the tiny country of Swaziland on the continent of Africa. I lived there for the summer before my senior year in high school and fell in love with the country and its people. I worked in a government hospital there and I can’t think of another experience that has affected me so greatly! As far as hobbies, I am SO not athletic that it’s embarrassing, but I LOVE NFL football. My family is from Indiana, so the Colts are my team. My husband is a Bengals fan, so as you can imagine there is some tension in our home as my team knocked his out of the playoffs on Sunday J. I also love the Pacers! I love ALL kinds of music. If you ever have a suggestion for me, I will look it up and listen every time. So, please share! I was a musician in high school, playing the French horn, trumpet, and percussion. As far as our class goes, I just want every student who walks into our room to feel safe. I know that sometimes personalities clash, but I ask that you make every effort this semester to get to know your fellow classmates. Please be respectful of each other’s feelings. We will be discussing several topics this semester that require maturity and an open-mind. If you make those two things a priority for yourself every day, then we should all have a good time and learn a lot! Like I said before, I understand that Lit is not everyone’s favorite class. I want you to know that I am here to do everything within my power to help you succeed. If you show me that you are trying, I will find a way to help you! I will have two days after school that I am available for extra help and makeup work. Please take advantage of this time if you need it! I can’t help if you don’t tell me what you need. I hope that you are excited for a great semester. I am really looking forward to getting to know each of you and seeing what you have to teach me. Sincerely, Mrs. SarahLaine Magaña |
