- On Monday, we had our photo shoot! Each group that has worked together to come up with a creative image to represent a modern "outsider" got to put their ideas into action. Our students went down to "hair & make up" (our Cosmetology class) and a photographer came to class to shoot the images. We are really looking forward to seeing how they turn out once she is done with the editing and sends them back. Any student absent on the day of the project will be asked to complete an image analysis essay on his/her own.
- We went over the words from the Vocab 9 list for Friday's quiz. Those words can be found under "Vocabulary & Handouts".
- Students were introduced to the background of the time period for our next unit: The 17th & 18th centuries plus romanticism. Each student completed a textbook hunt for information and turned that in for a classwork grade.
- Next, we introduced the different forms of sonnets--Shakespearean and Petrarchan. Students worked in pairs to analyze examples of each, and then composed a sonnet of their own.
- Another major genre from this time period is the satirical essay. We read Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" and discussed the elements of satire.
