- This week, students are quizzing over the LAST vocab list! Vocabulary 10 can be found under Vocab & Handouts, and we will quiz over it on Friday (11/13).
- We are finishing up this unit's study of the satirical essay. Students received notes on the elements of satire, and we practiced analyzing some satirical cartoons.
- We viewed a video on the Wealth Gap in the United States, and read an opinion piece (blog post) that connected our current economic situation in the U.S. to the situation described in Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal (pg. 617 in textbook).
- Students are reading the essay in teams and completing a reading guide that focuses on the tone created by poignant word choice, prevailing images, and the satirical devices covered in class (inflation, caricature, invective, etc.) *This handout is under Vocab & Handouts Unit 4.*
- We will be taking an "Almost There" assessment before we dive into the next section of poetry for the unit.
- Once we complete the satirical essay, we will be looking at the two predominant schools of poetry from this time period--The Metaphysical Poets & The Cavalier Poets. This will include a reading and analysis of an exemplary poem from each school.
